Additions to the Twitch Mobile App
CONCEPT PROJECT - UX/UI DESIGN - iOS
I added content creator tools to the Twitch mobile app in an effort to increase streamer users satisfaction with the app.
All information in this case study is my own and does not necessarily reflect the views of Twitch.

WHAT IS TWITCH?
"Twitch is the world's leading live streaming platform for gamers and the things we love."
Users can either be watchers of a streamer/content creator and/or the streamer/content creator themselves.
Content creator users live stream video games, e-sports competitions, music, entertainment, and "in real life" (IRL) content. Content creators can develop their own following exclusively on Twitch or use Twitch to supplement their following they've developed on another platform.

THE OUTCOME
This was overall a positive outcome in terms of user experience from the users that participated. They found the concepts to be useful and hoped that they will come to fruition one day.
In terms of business outcomes, they remain inconclusive due to the number of participants that were willing to test the prototypes out.
The objective of this project was to see if these new features led to an increase in usage of the mobile app. Unfortunately, I could not recruit enough participants to come to a solid number.
However, we can predict, based on the focus group results, that users that stream on a regular basis will use these new features to supplement their stream set-up, therefore increasing mobile app usage.
THE PROBLEM
75% of content creator users surveyed DO NOT use the mobile app (specifically the Stream Manager) to supplement their streaming experience.
The Main Reasons
-
App constantly bugs out
-
Clears chat when exiting app
-
Lack of streamer-to-audience interactive features
THE SOLUTION
By adding important native desktop features that are essential to the Twitch streaming process, we will improve the content creator experience which may lead to an increase in mobile app usage overall.
Users will find more convenience in the app if we...
-
Make it easier to access analytical data from their stream as well as extensions and moderator tools
We don't want users to...
-
Have a hard time doing simple tasks to maintain their stream
-
Be discouraged to start streaming because they lack the computer power to handle all the software
User Satisfaction Goals
Users like the final product
Users completed the tasks they intended to do
They rate the new features at least a 4 out of 5
PRELIMINARY GOALS
Business Goals
More users use the app after the new features launch
Users utilize the new features frequently
More revenue from an increased number of users
CONCEPT GOALS DUE TO LIMITED RESEARCH RESOURCES
THE CHALLENGE
Initial Assumptions & Blockers
My first few assumptions about why users don't use the mobile app were that it just isn't convenient and lacks the sophisticated broadcasting software most streamers use. Twitch makes it possible to go live on the app, but all you can control is the camera on your phone.
Possible blockers were incorporating the 3rd party broadcasting software in a simple way as well as making it easier to access extensions and moderator options. This was also my first ever UX project so another set of blockers was learning Figma and recruiting enough participants.

THE ACTUAL SOLUTIONS
These were the concepts that I designed around to bring me to the project's goals.
Added a Creator Dashboard for mobile
-
Brought on desktop features such Insights and Channel Analytics for users to see how well their stream did right at their fingertips
Made the Stream Manager more functional on mobile
-
Incorporated a way to integrate one's preferred broadcasting software with a mobile stream deck
-
Included a mobile way to manage the Rewards Queue, so it is more convenient to keep track of all the activities the chat brings on
